About Advance Research Library

Advance Research Library is an independent, free collection of research-skills guides for students and early-career researchers, with a particular focus on engineering and computing.

We write the way a good subject librarian and a good teacher explain things at the desk or in the classroom: practical steps, the reasoning behind them, and links to the primary sources so you can check for yourself.

What we publish

• Guides — finding, evaluating and using research sources.
• Lecture notes — how to plan, write and present research work.
• Reading paths — structured routes into a research topic.
• Reference — citation styles, identifiers and terminology.

What we do not do

• We do not publish research papers, run a journal, or offer peer review.
• We do not host copies of other publishers’ articles.
• We do not sell indexing, citations or “impact factors”.
• We do not accept payment to recommend journals or services.
